Important Update: Changes to the Game’s Music

Important Update: Changes to the Game’s Music

Hey everyone,

I wanted to take a moment to share an important update regarding Eternum’s soundtrack. Due to a licensing and guidelines issue with a music platform, we’ve had to remove all of its content from the game. Unfortunately, this means that a few of the tracks you’ve come to love will no longer be present.

However, thanks to the incredible effort of several community members, we’ve replaced those songs with other free alternatives and AI-generated pieces to try to maintain the game’s atmosphere. This wasn’t a choice we made willingly, but a necessary action to ensure the project can continue without complications.

Keep in mind that the new version 0.8.6 doesn't include any new content—the only change is the updated sound. Also, please refrain from reaching out to any artists or commenting on YouTube videos.

Resolving this issue temporarily paused development, but we’re now back on track and moving forward with 0.9 as planned.

I truly appreciate your understanding and support through this. I’m sorry for the inconvenience, but I hope you’ll continue to enjoy Eternum as we keep improving it.

Sincerely,

Caribdis

People care way too much about AI stuff. It's only bad if it's hurting artists, and if Caribdis can't afford to pay someone for the music, then no artists are being harmed because they wouldn't get paid anyway! Stop just automatically hating on anything AI and actually think about how it is being used people

Did all of the YouTube comments in the songs contribute to the licensing disagreement or was it something else entirely?

Not a big fan of AI generated stuff. I truly hope the game makes enough money back to afford some bespoke composed music rather than that kind of stuff.

Does anyone know which tracks were affected exactly? How "few" is few?

like around 50 RIP

I'm gonna keep my current version. If I decide to do another playthrough I'll use that before transferring saves to 0.9 and 1.0. The music is too iconic!

indeed !! , i even downloaded some of them because they are sooo amazing

The music in this game is actually so good that I added the track "blah blah blah" to my playlist

It was too good to be true, I liked the music in this game so much that I ended up listening to the artists separately and now knowing that the same music will no longer be in the game where I initially heard it makes me sad.

However, it has to be done so that this wonderful project can continue.

It's definitely sad but we do appreciate what you have been doing fam. Godspeed always Caribdis :D

I suspect some of the  comments against AI tracks are probably more theological than practical. There won't even be an issue if unmentioned as evidenced by AI music already being in use with no problems currently.

For me as long as the tracks are suitable, I couldn't care less whether it's AI or human composed. Anything is better than playing Eternum in silence or worse still playing a random track in the background that doesn't fit.

That's so sad :(

The music is one of the most important part of this game. Hope you can find good replacements!

Will the "AI" generated tracks eventually be replaced with real music?
I'm fine if they're just a temporary thing until something real can be put in.

That being said, I'd rather have silence over any generated content. (Same goes for images; I'd rather have an awful hand drawn image over anything generated.)

AI music was already in the game before this happened. For instance, the track used for the Andromeda event for 0.8 (when Orion entered the server) is AI-made.

please mention that again with a little sentence, I want to remember that because I think the game is really good and  I don't want to be like that should I be in my usually sadly not so happy mood.

It's never good if that happens, not sure if this wouldn't have been more like a good add than a bad thing for them to have their music here.

when 0.9 come out will the old save with old soundtrack still work?

(+1)

I think it will cause some crack buddy. Depends on the device you use

(+2)

Unfortunately no, the save files are just markers and do not contain music tracks.

(1 edit)

Saves should not be affected. Any save should work in 0.8.6 and in 0.9 in the future. Currently played music is not tied to a save, Renpy handles it just fine.

Edit: Probably didn't understand the question correctly. Yeah, you will hear new songs, not the old ones

😶😶🙃🙃🤔🤔😳😳

I understand the reasoning, but personally I'd rather have silence with a textbox explaing why theres no music over anything AI generated. Just a personal thing though, I'll still play the game, just maybe with the music turned off in the settings.

that's kind of disappointing. How did you know it was  AI?

(1 edit) (+1)

Was mentioned in Cari's Discord.

Well, that's definitely disappointing. Guess I'll just keep the music off then.
