You've got balls playing this in public lmao. But in all honesty, I agree with you. I especially like how Caribdis wrote Orion Richards. Aside from the fact that he has an actual personality, which is not common for main characters in the visual novel genre, he's also a genuinely good person. He doesn't show kindness to the girls because he thinks it will get them to take their clothes off in front of him faster; he shows kindness to the girls because he actually cares about them, and wants them to be happy, regardless of whether or not they'll do sexual things with him. He's a good friend and wingman to Chang, and he shows patience and kindness even to his enemies. He's an admirable person who always tries to do the right thing.
But I also like that Orion is not a perfect main character. He's fleshed out. And he's human, with human flaws that he has to learn to overcome in the story. To prevent spoilers, I won't say what those things are here, but that's another aspect of Orion's character that I like. He's also eye candy. I'm a straight guy, 100%. But even I gotta admit that Orion is hot as hell, lol.
I feel the same way as you do about this being one of the best games ever. Not just visual novels, but games in general. This and Bendy and the Ink Machine are some of the most well written games out there, in my opinion. And Orion Richards and Henry Stein are easily my favorite protagonists in gaming! :D

I highly recommend Projekt Passion, Realm Invader, Companion of Darkness, Unraveling August (even if there isn't much in it rn), and Goddess's Whim. Ooh and Between Humanity. Cause someone mentioned that down below.
Goddess's Whim, Projekt Passion (costs $10 for the full game but has a free demo,), and Companion of Darkness have the most content out of those in case you want something to kill a decent chunk of time with.
Im beeing totally honest with you, im a decently fast reader, and this game took me about, not gonna lie, 17-18 hours? to finish it to the point of 0.8, you can have +/- a few hours, depending if u fail routes or skip site scenes etc.
But overall, you will have quite a while to play :)
I cheated and looked at the walkthrough after like 4 hrs. since last I played through in 0.5. But... Honestly, don't use the walkthrough, its way more fun f***ing up and finding out afterwards lmao ( maybe except for what to buy at chop chops cuz... well chop chop)
I think, it can easily be like 20 hrs play time if u actually tried to explore all the options
I won't drag this out by saying what everyone else has already said. Been playing since March 30, 2024. I've seen it all and I've said it all. There is no creative praise left for this game, because every compliment and point of praise has already been given to it, and for well deserved reasons. Instead, I will simply say this:
5/5 game. Came for the porn, stayed for the story. Just play the game if you want to see why everybody loves this game.
I must say, I am really engaging with the story and am looking forward to how it ends. That being said, I do kind of...wish the story has a bit more interactive elements. I know that there are choices where you can steer the story a certain way (I was especially thrilled to see that lucky pendant thing being relevant down the line) but I feel like there could be more little (perhaps largely inconsequential?) interactions so you don't feel like you are just along for the ride until you are at the story beat/romance beat junction. (Maybe make losing a romantic interest more gradual? Since I think I lost Luna just because I didn't want to push her comfort zone and ask about her glove after just one mission in with her). If nothing else, more quick time events just to spice up the combat a little bit, so it isn't just a one time mechanic.
Aside from that, I guess it's just nitpicks, like maybe a re-render of that cartoon server content since the stretching of the character model to accommodate larger eyes is...uncanny. And also (and I know that branching content means more effort, and this game honestly handled it very, very well) maybe some more variations of dialogue in sex-scene internal monologue? When you get laid with more than one person and everyone has the claim to fame for being "tightest" it...just doesn't add variation. Also Annie, bless her pure little heart, went from someone who is characterized as a sci-fi geek that introduces you to Ion but later on she just became another magic user, I feel like she should stick to sci-fi abilities and the like to help distinguish herself from the Dalia, Luna, and Penny.
Other than that, though, I still think that the story is great, the pacing is pretty good with enough story beat between the content we are all here for, likable characters. Also the music selection is very nice.
I just have to say that this is the greatest VN I've ever read/watched/played. The writing is absolutely phenomenal, and the characters and animations are on point. Incredibly well done!
PS. Thank you for not ending the most recent update where I thought it was going to end. Having at least some bit of resolution after was a relief.
This review will contain some spoilers, but I will try to keep them as vague as possible. So I think it is quite safe to read.
I write this review because this game is, in my opinion, the perfect example of huge wasted potential. It has so many great things going on but, at the same time, it falls into so many clichés and storytelling traps, that it becomes hard to keep reading. Still, in my opinion, Eternum is superior to many of those cringe japanese visual novels that now saturate the market. Eternum is original, has a lot of heart and dedication, and has Soul. And it does it without so much noise, tsunderes, exaggerated expressions, and so many tropes that I find so hard to digest in japanese media.
Why I find Eternum superior to many VN'S:
+Worldbuilding: The amount of original worldbuilding in this game is amazing. We find the characters going from genre to genre, from a fantasy world, to a western movie, then, to a sci-fi horror movie. It's so refreshing to see! The author has created a world with lots of depth which is something lacking in the great majority of VN's.
+Characters: The characters are likeable, funny and feel more real than the majority of other vn's. They also have interesting progression and growth. This is actually true for the first part of the Game. Then, it falls into a lot of clichés and bad writing. But I will talk about this later.
+Dialogues: Witty, funny and clever, with many cultural references. It's not just silly pretentious stuff.
+Music: The music is great. I don't know whether it is AI or not (I recently found out that a lot of it is AI and felt a bit disappointed by it, to be honest), but it really adds the right atmosphere to everything.
+The Story: The story is interesting, nuanced, complex, not just the typical high school setting which has been done millions of time already. Well done!
+Sex Scenes. HOT af!! No fluff, no cringe dialogues like many other Vn's. Just pure, raw sex!
And now, the negatives of Eternum, and why I think it is huge wasted potential:
-The Protagonist: Starts off as likeable, ends up like the typical, mary-sue character that turns out he is good at everything. He is a god at fighting, has suddenly the biggest superpowers, he's the best lover, the best sex partner, the best body, he can do anything. What this does, is that the main character becomes plain and uninteresting. And this is found in many VN's and modern anime, especially in Isekai. I can see the author consumes a lot of this media.
-The female cast: They fall for Orion out of the blue, no progression, no development, nothing. The most spectacular example is Annie: she goes from being the typical childhood friend of the protagonist, to falling crazily in love with him in matter of weeks. This happens with the rest of the female cast. They just fall for him and he barely does nothing to earn it, other than being a mary-sue (and being "nice and kind").
What I described happens with TONS of anime series, especially in the harem genre. Protagonists just have to "care" and simp for the female cast, for them to fall in love with them. The self-insert is very obvious. I would rather prefer a realistic story, where depending on your actions, only one female character falls in love with you, but because you earn it, not because you happen to be the protagonist. And there is a progression to it, where she slowly falls for you, not just out of the blue, getting on her knees and sucking your dick.
-Dude, CHANG should have been in the story much more! He is a lot of fun, hilarious, and it is what makes the protagonist more relatable and human. They are two bros and interactions between them are highlights in the story. I find the lack of interesting male characters also quite weird. I miss more friendship stuff., not just a bunch of women and girls surrounding the protagonist everywhere.
-As the story progresses, it becomes too easy to get in bed with the girls. I want to see it as a reward, as a sort of hunting. It needs to feel as if you earned to be in bed with her.
-Characters in the later part of the game: As the game progresses, all characters become 2 dimensional. They all just fall for Orion out of the blue and their progression stops there.

It would seem I gave more criticism to the game than positives, but that's not true. I find this game could be a masterpiece if you would add those elements, really! It's already better than many other VN's in the market, and this is impressive, because this is a solo project, a passion project. I just want to say keep up the good work!

Edit: By the way, I forgot to talk about the girls in Eternum. I actually didn't like the "main" girls that much (you know: Annie, Penny, Dalia), but god damn it! I love Luna, Alex and Nova! Oh, and Calypso, too! They have very good arcs and development. I even got emotional with Alex backstory. Can't wait to see how their routes develop!
Your negative assertions are not wrong. But I disagree on all of them being negative. For the story in this world, I think that a lot of it was necessary. Yeah, could have made it take a little longer to get in with some of the girls, and yeah, he got too strong too fast. But it fits the story, and the world around the story. On top of that, all of those positives you mentioned more than make up for any of the negatives. Just my opinion, But I think it is in the top ten of all AVNs, and #1 for a harem builder.
What's confusing about your critique is that it's very refutable. Eternum's MC does have flaws, the progression is already slow burn, and the game does already present a challenge. ...But probably not as much as you would've liked.
So what I get from this is that you admire the game's high quality but disagree with some fundamental design choices: You like it when the MC has more personality and prominent flaws. You also rather prefer monogamous relationships and want a really slow burn progression.
I get that and I would also like to see more high quality games that are like that. So, I'd really like to know which AVNs you'd rate higher than this one!
You nailed it: Eternum's MC lacks personality, and that's actually the biggest flaw of the game. It is a low effort, self-insert protagonist that you find in hundreds of harems and Isekai. In contrast, the plot is fantastic. That's why is really a pity we don't have a better MC. I actually appreciate harems with well written MC's, but there are really, really few of them.
My favorite harem MC is Yamato, from Majikoi, a japanese VN. Great story and hilarious. The story is set in modern Japan but with a lot of Edo period, samurai stuff. The protagonist has great personality, a cynical asshole at first, but he grows a lot. I really recommend!

A short dip into AVN design: The problem with personality-rich MCs is that if the player can't vibe with him, they'll likely drop the AVN right away. So a fraction of potential players is instantly gone just because of that. That's why devs usually opt to make a plain, self-insert-friendly MC and put the spotlight on the NPCs instead. If you don't like a girl's personality you can usually avoid her, but that's not possible with the MC.
I never thought it this way, it totally makes sense. It is a risk, for sure, especially for solo projects like this one. Still, I am of the opinion you can do a better job and still have a likeable MC with a fleshed out personality. A good example is Tomoya, the MC from Clannad, another excellent japanese VN. He is on the safe side (kind, caring, likeable, etc) but with some flaws and quirks that make him interesting enough.

i'm not sure i'm allowed to say the website where you can find the music restoration mod, but it's not hard to find if you look for it! as for finding the old music, and also the new music, you can find all the old music on a channel called "DeadBrokenMind," who uploads AVN soundtracks on his channel. eternum is his most popular I think. and as for the new music, there's a guy called "Tateshiko" who was asked to help replace the removed tracks. you can find his OST on his channel. I hope this helps! :D
Make sure you don’t use your irl name as the username on your PC. Reason is all game error reports will show the username of your device. If you post error report or send that full report to any dev they would have that info. You never know what a person on a public site or a dev will do with your info.

Other than that, though, I still think that the story is great, the pacing is pretty good with enough story beat between the content we are all here for, likable characters. Also the music selection is very nice.

This review will contain some spoilers, but I will try to keep them as vague as possible. So I think it is quite safe to read.
I write this review because this game is, in my opinion, the perfect example of huge wasted potential. It has so many great things going on but, at the same time, it falls into so many clichés and storytelling traps, that it becomes hard to keep reading. Still, in my opinion, Eternum is superior to many of those cringe japanese visual novels that now saturate the market. Eternum is original, has a lot of heart and dedication, and has Soul. And it does it without so much noise, tsunderes, exaggerated expressions, and so many tropes that I find so hard to digest in japanese media.
Why I find Eternum superior to many VN'S:
+Worldbuilding: The amount of original worldbuilding in this game is amazing. We find the characters going from genre to genre, from a fantasy world, to a western movie, then, to a sci-fi horror movie. It's so refreshing to see! The author has created a world with lots of depth which is something lacking in the great majority of VN's.
+Characters: The characters are likeable, funny and feel more real than the majority of other vn's. They also have interesting progression and growth. This is actually true for the first part of the Game. Then, it falls into a lot of clichés and bad writing. But I will talk about this later.
+Dialogues: Witty, funny and clever, with many cultural references. It's not just silly pretentious stuff.
+Music: The music is great. I don't know whether it is AI or not (I recently found out that a lot of it is AI and felt a bit disappointed by it, to be honest), but it really adds the right atmosphere to everything.
+The Story: The story is interesting, nuanced, complex, not just the typical high school setting which has been done millions of time already. Well done!
+Sex Scenes. HOT af!! No fluff, no cringe dialogues like many other Vn's. Just pure, raw sex!
And now, the negatives of Eternum, and why I think it is huge wasted potential:
-The Protagonist: Starts off as likeable, ends up like the typical, mary-sue character that turns out he is good at everything. He is a god at fighting, has suddenly the biggest superpowers,
he's the best lover, the best sex partner, the best body, he can do anything. What this does, is that the main character becomes plain and uninteresting. And this is found in many VN's and modern anime, especially in Isekai. I can see the author consumes a lot of this media.
-The female cast: They fall for Orion out of the blue, no progression, no development, nothing. The most spectacular example is Annie: she goes from being the typical childhood friend of the protagonist, to falling crazily in love with him in matter of weeks. This happens with the rest of the female cast. They just fall for him and he barely does nothing to earn it, other than being a mary-sue (and being "nice and kind").
What I described happens with TONS of anime series, especially in the harem genre. Protagonists just have to "care" and simp for the female cast, for them to fall in love with them. The self-insert is very obvious. I would rather prefer a realistic story, where depending on your actions, only one female character falls in love with you, but because you earn it, not because you happen to be the protagonist. And there is a progression to it, where she slowly falls for you, not just out of the blue, getting on her knees and sucking your dick.
-Dude, CHANG should have been in the story much more! He is a lot of fun, hilarious, and it is what makes the protagonist more relatable and human. They are two bros and interactions between them are highlights in the story. I find the lack of interesting male characters also quite weird. I miss more friendship stuff., not just a bunch of women and girls surrounding the protagonist everywhere.
-As the story progresses, it becomes too easy to get in bed with the girls. I want to see it as a reward, as a sort of hunting. It needs to feel as if you earned to be in bed with her.
-Characters in the later part of the game: As the game progresses, all characters become 2 dimensional. They all just fall for Orion out of the blue and their progression stops there.

It would seem I gave more criticism to the game than positives, but that's not true. I find this game could be a masterpiece if you would add those elements, really! It's already better than many other VN's in the market, and this is impressive, because this is a solo project, a passion project. I just want to say keep up the good work!

Oh, and Calypso, too! They have very good arcs and development. I even got emotional with Alex backstory. Can't wait to see how their routes develop!
Your negative assertions are not wrong. But I disagree on all of them being negative. For the story in this world, I think that a lot of it was necessary. Yeah, could have made it take a little longer to get in with some of the girls, and yeah, he got too strong too fast. But it fits the story, and the world around the story. On top of that, all of those positives you mentioned more than make up for any of the negatives. Just my opinion, But I think it is in the top ten of all AVNs, and #1 for a harem builder.
What's confusing about your critique is that it's very refutable. Eternum's MC does have flaws, the progression is already slow burn, and the game does already present a challenge. ...But probably not as much as you would've liked.
So what I get from this is that you admire the game's high quality but disagree with some fundamental design choices: You like it when the MC has more personality and prominent flaws. You also rather prefer monogamous relationships and want a really slow burn progression.
I get that and I would also like to see more high quality games that are like that. So, I'd really like to know which AVNs you'd rate higher than this one!
You nailed it: Eternum's MC lacks personality, and that's actually the biggest flaw of the game. It is a low effort, self-insert protagonist that you find in hundreds of harems and Isekai. In contrast, the plot is fantastic. That's why is really a pity we don't have a better MC. I actually appreciate harems with well written MC's, but there are really, really few of them.
My favorite harem MC is Yamato, from Majikoi, a japanese VN. Great story and hilarious. The story is set in modern Japan but with a lot of Edo period, samurai stuff. The protagonist has great personality, a cynical asshole at first, but he grows a lot. I really recommend!

A short dip into AVN design: The problem with personality-rich MCs is that if the player can't vibe with him, they'll likely drop the AVN right away. So a fraction of potential players is instantly gone just because of that. That's why devs usually opt to make a plain, self-insert-friendly MC and put the spotlight on the NPCs instead. If you don't like a girl's personality you can usually avoid her, but that's not possible with the MC.
I never thought it this way, it totally makes sense. It is a risk, for sure, especially for solo projects like this one. Still, I am of the opinion you can do a better job and still have a likeable MC with a fleshed out personality. A good example is Tomoya, the MC from Clannad, another excellent japanese VN. He is on the safe side (kind, caring, likeable, etc) but with some flaws and quirks that make him interesting enough.

i'm not sure i'm allowed to say the website where you can find the music restoration mod, but it's not hard to find if you look for it! as for finding the old music, and also the new music, you can find all the old music on a channel called "DeadBrokenMind," who uploads AVN soundtracks on his channel. eternum is his most popular I think. and as for the new music, there's a guy called "Tateshiko" who was asked to help replace the removed tracks. you can find his OST on his channel. I hope this helps! :D

Recommend an app, “mt manager”. It can bypass most system permissions. You can copy or move your save without VIP. If you have any trouble, there are some tutorials on YouTube. I am not an English user, so it is difficult to guide you how to use it.
